I'm automatically slower at self checkout since the self-checkout has to pester you no less than 3 times, whereas a clerk only pesters once.

Most people are unless you only have a few items, or have multiple people. Other than that, regular lines are faster (if we arent counting the waiting in line part)

If you are by yourself with a full cart, youll be slower because youre doing everything yourself, and one a time Where at a regular line, the cashier is scanning your items a you put them on the conveyor belt. And then you can start grabbing bags after you finish and stuff So, while I believe people with a few items or multiple people are faster at self-checkout, I dont really believe people with a full cart who are alone (unless they have a special talent, like competitive level)

I literally map out my journey before I even enter the grocery store. I get all my shit, already have the bag open and putting items in as Im scanning.

I dont want to spend a minute longer than I have to in the stupid fucking grocery store. Theres nothing I hate more than a bunch of people standing around like morons blocking everything and creating unnecessary traffic

Yep. Not just scanners. But baggers, too. If you have a full cart, you wont be faster since you have to do everything yourself. Depends on the store, too You have to open the bags, scan and bag every item, and then put the bag up. When you go to a regular cashier, you can just out items on the belt, by the time you finish, most items have been scanned and bagged, and you can start taking the bags. Its basically you do everything yourself, or split the work assembly line style Which would be faster than by yourself

are the people that work the register at you Aldi rude? The one I go to the people are always crazy rude to the customers. I get that they save time by having you bag your own stuff but they always treat everyone like they're this big pain in the ass even when they take all their stuff over to the self bagging counter right away

they have the cheapest avocados in the area that I know of, but I often pay more to get them from Walmart or something just to not deal with mean people

I even play video games and stuff like right after I pick out my items online and have them delivered

I love self check out

Scan, select own bags so the stupid "item removed from bagging area" error doesnt pop up, decline entering a phone number and bags purchased and off I go

Beats waiting behind someone slowly writing out a cheque or who cant figure out which card to use or some other bull

I think some self check-outs are designed such that it intentionally makes you slower. Like the ones at BJs are perfect, literally just scan the barcode on everything and you are good. Then you have my local supermarket where they intentionally make you place something in the bag before you can scan something else, and they don't let you swipe faster then one item every 3-5 seconds, whereas the cashiers can swipe 2-3 things per second with no restrictions.

That said, the less human interaction I have when I am out the better, so I would rather use self check-out no matter how slow it is. Although I treat it like an express lane, and I won't use it if I have more then 8-10 items.

Being slower isn't an issue since you fit several in the space of one till. If there's any queue at all, self-checkout is always quicker.

I've never seen self checkout take more than 2 minutes max since the 2000's and early 2010's when they barely worked and malfunctioned 90% of the time making them slower than normal checkouts. I think some of the people complaining about them being slower have the ones from that era.

Most people know not to go to self-checkout with a ton of stuff. The reason I usually see self-checkout go fast is because the person barely has any stuff. Anyone who has a full cart always takes a while, though. Longer than they would at a regular register, at least And Im not talking about waiting period

Why though? In most supermarkets I've visited they have self service checkouts that are specifically designed for those who do big shops. It's not limited to those people but it is a option. I've used them myself many times. It's better for me to go at my own pace without having to rush packing when someone is actually serving me. The smaller ones tend to have a limit of 10 items so when doing a week shop I don't use those.
