To explain why I made the cutoff there, it's because systems like the Genesis and TurboGrafx were launched in '88 and '87 respectively. 1989 saw these systems take off with their libraries. 1989 also had the Gameboy, which, while having a pretty limited line-up in 1989, still had some pretty definitive titles in the lineup like Super Mario Land or Final Fantasy Legend (I am unsure if I will be allowing Tetris in gen 4 yet, but the GB version of that is arguably the most popular example of the game too). So it just felt like a decent cut-off point for these computer and arcade games which don't really follow the traditional path system growth does, and I don't want to ban them from participation since I think those libraries can be fun to discuss and vote on.
