I was waiting for this episode of Tomodachi Game, when you finally start to see hints of Yuichi's true nature. Next episode will be even bigger.
I will say I enjoyed this episode the most so far. Focusing on the logic of the game makes the rest a lot more interesting. Gets the wheels turning a bit but it's hard to know how much I can think about things given how not logical things were in the beginning.

One thing that strikes me as odd is how they actually have so many groups. The only way to apply in the first place is to already know about the tomodachi game. The observer people act as if it's been going on for a long time. Wouldn't it make sense for the applicant in each or at least most groups to have already played a tomodachi game? Then again maybe they'll just handwave it and have the people running the game approach people they think would accept. Regardless, most games end in failure and some people end up in deeper and deeper debt making the idea of playing again more appealing. To lose you also have to have been betrayed so you'd probably be more likely to lose faith in friendships to begin with.

I wish the translator had retranslated all the rules of the current game when they showed them because I can't remember them from like 3 weeks ago. Just went back and looked and wow the game has a massive flaw in it. You can just farm the good spaces with blank cards and then lie to go back to the beginning over and over until you have zero debt. Assuming the net total of all tiles is zero, you just need to badmouth to skip over some early bad tiles and then chill with blanks. Even IF there is a traitor that just wants you to suffer, theres nothing they can do to stop you from lying and revealing it was a lie and going back to the beginning. Except I actually went back and rechecked this episode and it's different. Shitty translation I guess. In episode 2 when they introduce all the rules the penalty for getting caught lying is going back to the start (hardly a penalty at all) whereas in episode 5 it's translated as you move one space in front of the lead player. Very frustrating if I can't actually trust the rules are in fact the rules. That means the optimal strategy is to force all the 5s on one player and then everyone lie to get in front of them at the halfway point where favorable outcomes are more likely. You can also clear yourself of being the traitor at any point by writing your name and that you applied for tomodachi game and then having the lie revealed.

After thinking more, I'm less impressed but I'll probably give it the next episode as a final test to see if it can stay interesting to me.
