Between forgeries, only being allowed to buy one piece of art per character, only 2-5 pieces available at a time, and the likelihood of Redd carrying all forgeries, it's way too time consuming and reliant on luck. In the 2.0 update, they added the ability to get several vendors on Harvey's island (no DLC needed). Redd is one of them.
