Again, you have to look at who in Ukraine were pushing for joining the NATO alliance versus those who were friendly with Russia. Ukraine is not a monolith and the story becomes a lot more interesting when you touch on these aspects. I'd want to discuss this more, but it's not in my favor to do so.
