I feel like that is an issue with the game in general. Oftentimes you do a dungeon and get a reward that is utterly useless, like a base weapon that you won't bother with because yours is already fully upgraded or a spell you won't use. It probably will be better on subsequent playthroughs because you know what dungeons to bother with or avoid, but there is a lot of optional content in this game that does not help you at all aside from a few souls here and there.
