The fanbase is absolutely insane, but its understandable why it would develop such a fanbase. It taps into certain emotional spaces in a really simple but devilish and incomplete way, that leaves one wanting more and feeling that there is more, no matter how often you play it. Kind of drug-like; if it works on you that is. And, well, that's what fanbases and fan material provide: more.

I have the impression that Deltarune is going to do the same thing merely by association with Undertale, even if it is ostensibly aiming to be a more complete, singular and satisfying experience.

I should note that I like the game, I'm not trash talking it, just making an observation about its effect on people.
