the kid born to a crack addicted mother in the ghetto needs to work demonstrably harder than a child born to upper class parents to achieve the same end result. the decks is so stacked against so many people, there's absolutely no way you can consider our modern implementation of capitalism "fair". also consider the fact that being poor is expensive and it takes money to make money. once you have a head start, it's so much easier to get farther ahead.
Life as a whole isn't fair, even if you removed wealth said kids still wouldn't be equal. Some will be athletically more gifted, smarter, talented, taller, social, charismatic, better looking and so on.

So why is wealth worse then any of these? If anything it's a equalizer for individuals not born with any of these.
