First, the system doesn't display its remaining battery life in the controller menu for some reason. Second, the LEDs actually blink green after it's fully charged. I've taken to charging it in the kitchen since there's no way to stop the LEDs from flashing when it's charging. Seriously, who thought that was a good idea?
