It's his modus operandi. Either a thinly-veiled sarcastic remark or drive-by unreservedly snide comment to provoke negative responses, and anyone who does so is "obviously" a crying baby. Recently he has taken to going into any of my topics in particular that he sees and attempting to hurt me by commenting on the dismal state of my life at any opportunity.
