Yeah the mass swiping probably does us no favors but it's hard. It's hard enough to try to present your best but you also have to game the algorithm, but nobody knows exactly how it works. It's generally agreed upon that swiping too much decreases your visibility, but they also want people who are engaging with the app, so I don't think you can just like create an account and not touch it for a couple weeks and hope that the likes roll in. Ideally you're probably supposed to swipe on like ten people a day but who wants to do that, I'm way too compulsive if the app is on my phone
