Topic | 1.4m COVID-19 cases in the US yesterday! |
adjl 01/11/22 3:07:00 PM #11: | Gaawa_chan posted... From what I understand they stack up a bit from over the weekend (that's why the weekend #s are weirdly low). They do, since a lot of regions don't report anything on the weekends (you can see this more strikingly by looking at state figures, since you'll see weekends with 0 cases), which results in some spikes on Mondays. It's part of why single-day case numbers aren't tremendously meaningful and you should look at 7-day averages instead. A similar thing happened with the first day the US hit a million cases, since it was right after a holiday weekend where some places took as many as four consecutive days off. Obviously, that excuse doesn't apply to this figure and breaking a million still illustrated the alarming trend everyone expected it to, but it's still worth considering the context of any given single-day spike. --- This is my signature.
