I think I'd extend "power" to also the power of age/majority/etc. Think about how many times we, as adults, forget what it's like to be a child. Think about boomers won't cannot fathom the troubles Gen Y/Z face. The way societal majorities don't empathize with minorities, whether of color, sexual orientation, etc. I think, what it comes down to, is that when you don't have to care about problems, you don't. And so, because those neural pathways aren't there, you simply literally don't understand.
