Maybe I'm a minority in this but I really liked the meta-fictional elements that poke fun at the idea of making a fourth Matrix movie (since it does fit in the theme of not fully comprehending what is real and what isn't) and I thought the movie as a whole was more light-hearted than previous installments. But a lot of the underlying message felt hokey on reflection, even if it was still glazed over with a thick dose of philosophical rumination on the nature of reality. The core tenets it's built on didn't feel as genuinely thought-provoking as what the original trilogy went for. Still I liked it better than Revolutions (and maybe even Reloaded). --- Sometimes it's necessary to make people miserable, even if that means making yourself miserable in the process. ...
