X and Y have chain fishing which is insanely good for catching shiny pokemon. might be one of the most consistent shiny hunting methods in existence and is very easy to do. but it's limited to the old rod, good rod, and super rod pokemon available in XY. and of course this doesn't help with getting shiny pokemon in BDSP. but still an interesting piece of trivia, I guess.

for fubuki's situation, she seems to be intentionally hunting at the 1/4000~ rate just for the sake of doing it. she's not even advancing through the game until she gets the shiny pokemon in each location that she wants, and after she caught the gold magikarp she said she probably isn't even going to evolve it into a gyarados.

so yeah, what she's doing is more of a self imposed challenge, and is a totally separate conversation from 'what are the best ways to get a shiny pokemon'
