None of them are anywhere close to being truly road ready. Their ability to operate in ideal conditions does not give me confidence that you could take one down a poorly maintained road, or in heavy rain, or when snow is partially obscuring a sensor, or when there's glare from weird angles there are just too many conditions that you can expect in regular operations that these autonomy systems are just in no way ready for. And that doesn't even get into how badly performance drops if a single sensor starts malfunctioning as the cars get older.
Agreed, this is where I'm at.

Mapping a handful of tiny specific sections of road and relying on it to be kept pristine with a ton of crappy LiDAR sensors is a gimmicky dead end. Legacy automakers aren't tech/AI companies so they're forced to pretend they're working on self driving.

Mercedes panic mapped a road to drive 30mph on because Giga Berlin just opened in their backyard sucking up all the talent. We're not anywhere close to something I'd trust.

Tesla and Apple are the only ones even trying to solve this by going pure vision based AI. No gimmicks, no bs sensors and mapped rails. But I don't see it being solved for a very long time.
