Turning It All Around - Who doesn't love a good turnabout? Why would you be playing Ace Attorney if you didn't? I've gotta change my perspective and look at things from a different angle! What would that man do who can turn around any hopeless situation? Turn the chessboard over! Wait, wrong game.

Manfred von Karma - He's still the single most fearsome opponent in Ace Attorney history in my book. I once counted how many pressed statements von Karma DOESN'T object to on the first trial day, and other than the final Lotta testimony (which he sits out of because he's upset she ruined his perfect plan), there are two. Two. Phoenix needs multiple miracles to even stand a chance of beating von Karma, and taking him down with the metal detector is still an all-time great moment.

Trucy Wright - As absurd of a concept as Trucy is as a character, I still love her. She's the one bright spot in the sadsack world that is Apollo Justice. Phoenix calls her his light, and she really was the light of that game. I loved what they did with her in 6-2 as the defendant, and her testimony became one of my favorites. We still need a case with a Phoenix/Trucy team-up though (the beginning of 5-5 doesn't count)!

G2-4's Dance of Deduction

Barok van Zieks - First of all, what a great theme song. Second of all, what a great design. I do enjoy him as a character and how they work to unravel his discrimination against the Japanese and how he eventually overcomes it. Also, did you know he never breaks more than 17 hallowed chalices in any one trial?

The Updated Autopsy Report - I've seen people suggest that this was a genuine updated autopsy report, but I feel like it's meant to come across as a dirty play by Edgeworth, who saw the potential contradiction of Mia being unable to write Maya's name in blood if she died instantly and closed the loophole, hence the "I'm a sham/you're a sham/this detective's a sham!" choice. I feel like 1-2 did a great job of showing how hard the deck is stacked against the defense, and this is a big reason why.

The Mixing Board - This is such a cool piece of evidence. It was pretty fun digging through the songs trying to figure out what's off, even though most of the time it was fairly obvious what you were trying to find. It's certainly better than examining that video tape!

Believe me, any comic relief I may provide is entirely unintentional.

Bonny and Betty de Famme - I think I appreciate them as a duo more and more over time. The twin reveal is one of my favorite silly moments in Spirit of Justice. Bonny also has one of the best animations in the series when she lifts her hat to reveal the bunny except there's no bunny there. Then she looks under the hat with a confused stare before turning back to the camera with that winning smile. So good.

Drew Misham's Paintings - I've never gotten the complaint that they're red herrings. The paintings suggest that Drew follows the goings on of the Wright Anything Agency, and then his backstory explains why he does. I get why people wish there was more to the paintings than that because it's a bit boring, but I still think they were cool.

Case 1s That Tease Dynamics in the Final Case
The Adventure of the Great Departure (G1-1)
Soseki Natsume
Save Scumming

Kristoph's Demon Hand - The last trial day of 4-4 is so dumb. It only has one testimony, and it's this Perceive where the camera's focus automatically starts exactly where you need it to be looking. This is Apollo's one contribution to the climax of the game that bears his name. Dude got such a raw deal.

I'm not sure I like you wagging your finger at me as though I were some hoser!

Ace Attorney Stage Plays

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth - As a concept, it's a really cool idea, but I just don't think they knew what to do with it quite yet in the first game. AAI1 walked so that AAI2 could fly. Edgeworth is still a great protagonist, but the game has no truly great cases, unfortunately.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
No Game No Life Cornered Remix
Raiten Menimemo

Apollo's Backstories - One of my favorite self-aware lines in Spirit of Justice is when Apollo goes, "I grew up in Khura'in. Did I...never mention that?" Yeah, you'd think it'd have come up in the previous two games...! It's kind of wild how utterly uninteresting Phoenix is compared to...well, every other important character in the series. His childhood trauma was getting accused of stealing 37 bucks.

Phoenix Eating the Bottle of Poison
Shouting "Objection!" into the system's mic
Logic Chess
Phoenix/Edgeworth Ship

The Blue Badger - What a wriggling piece of plywood this thing is. I feel like the Blue Badger is probably overdone as a whole in Ace Attorney, but it feels like that's par for the course with stuff that originated in 1-5. I don't know why the series is so proud of 1-5 that they feel like they had to keep bringing everything back from it multiple times.

Venus
Great Ace Attorney Being Stingy with the Pursuit Theme
Ace Attorney's Standards for Guilt and Innocence
2-3's Murder Physics

Extraterritorial Rights - You'd think the trial would be over once you find a way to revoke Alba's extraterritorial rights, but you'd be wrong. I feel like E1-5 wanted to craft an epic final boss, and while I do largely enjoy it, it goes on way too long. The climax of the case was exposing Shih-na as Calisto Yew, and then the game goes on for hours afterwards. Truly the Trails of Cold Steel II moment of the Ace Attorney series.

Northward: Turnabout Express (Ace Attorney Anime Season 2)
The Adventure of the Unbreakable Speckled Band (G1-2)
