You don't have to do anything to activate it. Walking through the exit door is enough. You can bypass it by pausing the game just as you enter the door (then un-pausing) but I literally had to call customer support to find that answer after returning the game twice and replaying it three times. That sounds like a pretty niche game, but sure.
