White people are to be protected the same. But white people aren't the ones historically abused on the level black people are. And co-opting BLM into Blue Lives Matter and All Lives Matter just shows that white people can't stand the idea of black people getting their problems spotlighted in the US. It has to be about white people like it always has since the U.S. was a thing. They'd rather turn it into a petty arguments that eat up time for progress rather than just let black people be spotlighted. And there's ill intentions behind that for a lot of people.
