I'm surprised how much lover PM is getting over TTYD. Thought I was more in the minority in thinking it was the best game in the series.

discounting SMRPG since i still haven't played it

would definitely recommend it. it's a good game and cool to see the primitive mechanics that were used in the other games. definitely more of a traditional RPG compared to the later games. you still have an active defend but not straight up dodge.

Havent beat Paper Mario 64 yet I would rate M&L like this:

Bowser's Inside Story > Superstar Saga > Dream Team > Paper Jam > Partners in Time.

Yeah, I know many would rate Paper Jam the last. Yeah, the enemies are just the same old NSMB ones, there are the lazy toads everywhere and koopalings and bowser as bosses. But Partners in Time was underwhelming to me in many ways. Hate how much HP the bosses have, it's annoying how linear the maps became and using 4 buttons for the gameplay was annoying (specially when one of the adult bros die you have to jump with like a + y at the same time, completely opposite buttons).

yea that's kinda what's annoying about paper jam is the 3 buttons. makes dodging pretty hard for some attacks. PiT definitely had the same problem with 4 buttons. overall i still enjoyed the game but the babies were pretty weak and you could just body everything with the adults. but then was nice when they split them up at times so it was just the standard 2 person battles. for a first playthrough PiT was a lot of fun. but not sure how it would live up to replaying it
