Presumably there's some sort of mechanic that limits what you can do in a day, since the entire genre is based on managing opportunity costs. Recettear (which is often considered the ancestor of the indie shop management subgenre, though many other examples exist now) handled that by having time progress through four periods each time you travelled between different areas (e.g. Your shop, Dungeons, Town shops...). You could spend as long as you wanted in each (aside from time passing when your shop was open), which was mostly useful for dungeon exploration, but you still had limits on what you could do each day.
