If he actually died out there and the whole thing isn't a ruse (which it probably is), it's almost definitely death by misadventure (and quite literally) (And who the fuck would he be bringing poison to kill out in the woods? Shit makes no sense. Explanations need to be plausible.) People half asses plans and do stupid sh it all the time. Not to mention, the poison might not have been for someone in the woods. Some people just go missing without bodies ever being found. And that can be even worse. At least there is a little closure with the bodies being found. But only a little.
