SCP-2776 is an automaton likeness of the first US president: George Washington. Part horror, part sci-fi alternate history story, and part political conspiracy, there's a lot here to take in as is the case with most SCPs. As I understand it, SCP-2776 WAS our first president in the SCP universe, created as a sort of fail-safe in the case of George Washington's death. Made with the appropriate technology of the time (I didn't fact check this), but also with additional advanced technology. There's some hidden depths to it as well which only activate upon the breaking of three rules:

  • The United States of America exists as a free democracy.
  • Great Britain, its citizenry, or any party originating within its borders does not pose a threat to the safety and stability of America or any of its assets.
  • The French Republic exists and is not threatened by the United Kingdom.
It's an interesting and mind-capturing concept, and targets a lot of specific fears and anxieties: the fear that our leaders aren't who they say they are, that they're puppets controlled by shadowed figures, or simply that they don't originate from a place of normalcy. To discover this would be an earth-shattering reveal and would genuinely cause a lot of people to go mad or insane, as the very structure of the nation crumbles under this truth. The people as a whole would lose the one thing that at least somewhat ties the whole nation together under a guiding hand.

On the other hand, I've seen this concept done a little bit in other fictional sources. Metal Gear tackles this with the concept of AIs, or Fallout with Liberty Prime, basically the Washington automaton blown up to a much bigger scale. The way it's treated in the article is rather rote and when it does go haywire i feel like it could've went even farther in the destruction it caused. The SCP is also mostly docile which diminishes some of the horror quite a bit. Most of the horror here comes from "what ifs?", which are frankly more interesting to tackle than the actual concept.

The song above is a total joke by the way and isn't associated with the SCP BUT it does happen to tie into the SCP quite well as it were. And it's just a bangin' song too.

I've decided to put my fears behind me. I'm not going back.
