Topic	I just finished Dark Souls (prepare to die edition) for the first time. Spoilers

So it can feel out of place in context of the series. It plays a bit differently from the others (I think a different engine?), it had development issues that resulted in some broken up level design and ugly texturing, and there's a quantity > quality issue in regards to the bosses. An updated release called 'Scholar of the First Sin' is now the defacto version but it introduced some ridiculous difficulty changes, mostly by adding too many enemies to areas, which makes the runs back to boss rooms really obnoxious since there's 3 seconds when you touch a fog wall where you can get hit and the animation canceled, so you have to fight all those enemies. Anecdotally, it's just not a memorable game.
