I always found it really ironic that the most patriotic people in this country are often the ones who have never been in service, I had my mother tell me once I shouldn't join the military if I'm not patriotic when all my service member friends are the least patriotic people I've known even prior to them joining and did it for the benefits, I don't know a single person who joined for any sense of patriotism.
I find that to be pretty true for the most part. Most guys I joined with either had families they needed to take care of or came from bad areas and just wanted out. And the nice thing about the military is it gives you opportunities and youll never hurt for money if youre responsible. I was on a full ride at Oklahoma State and just realized college wasnt for me at the time.

one thing I did realize was that what the United States calls patriotism I think most other countries would call chauvinism. This country has just cranked it up so far past everyone else that were just on a bizarrely different level.
