She is woman, hear her roar.

Genuinely though the world is beginning to wake up to the fact that education does not equate to intelligence.
Actually the issue is that college used to be gatekept so only those with money or exceptional ability could pursue it, and as such it was a near guaranteed ticket into the upper echelons of society.

As it became more accessible, the elite began creating new ways to keep out people from the working class. "Yes you have a degree, but you can't get experience unless either
A) you do an unpaid internship (something only people with money can afford because they have bills and rent to pay)
B) you have friends and family who can give you a job to get that experience in (meaning you'd need to have contacts in fancy corporate institutions to do so)

As things stand, college for a degree is a formality, what matters is forming connections they'll use later in life like when they're rising the corporate ladder and need to call on business associates for deals or what have you. Or else, for political funding when they're running for office.

So yeah, the degree itself no longer means as much... Oh, and the elites that run the universities and student loan companies intentionally raise the price to still keep out as name lower and middle class people as possible, or at least profit heavily from them.
