My wife wants to get a pool and I'm against it in part because I'm afraid of waking up one morning and finding one of my kids drowned in it.

When we're at the beach or whatever I keep a close eye on them but in my house they'll go outside to play and I won't be watching them the whole time because they're in my yard you know?

I'm also lazy and don't want to deal with maintaining a pool...

But yeah I hate reading about kids drowning in their own backyard it's a complete nightmare scenario :( or kids suffocating in an old trunk in the attic or some shit

When I was a kid somewhere on the east coast, I was hopping over fences to get to school (faster way then following the roads). I fell into a pool with a cover on it in someones back yard. There was snow on the ground that covered the whole thing and I happened to step right on the edge, so fell through.

It was pitch black underneath (due to the cover and snow. Still don't remember getting out/back home but I did somehow. Totally insane that I survived that.

Pools are freaking deadly, if you do get one, try getting an above ground pool (we had a micheal phelps one). They have a ladder you need to climb, and you an even move it away from the pool so nobody can get in. Also had a hard top that went over it. They are not that much more expensive and totally safe from having kids fall in it etc.
