When you give a description of a person, the company will upload that personality onto a doll and allow you to rent them for however long. The main character is one of the dolls. You can sign a few years of your life away and then when it's time, you'll get your body/mind back and be gifted some money and whatever else to better your future. I don't want to go into too much more, but the show gets really crazy. It's only two seasons.
