Merely stretching flat "deadly" to include anything that "can be deadly, etc." makes "deadly" a pretty diffuse term. Like you're not the only person to use it this way these days so I'm guessing I just have to adjust to it, but "deadly" used to mean "disease I, having some understanding of probability and statistics, should realistically fear as a mortal danger" and now seems in many people's minds to mean "disease certain people could under certain conditions die from, maybe* " ...
