That's not how it works though.

A gamma ray burst is one of the most deadliest things in the universe, but the chances of one hitting earth (and thus wiping out all life) is so statistically small, it can be called infinitesimal; this does not negate the fact that if a gamma ray burst does hit the earth, we will all die.

By your logic, as the universe is infinite, and almost entirely empty space at that, then the average population of the universe is zero.
