Corporations need to face it that their offices are noisy, distracting, inefficient, and uncomfortable. The good employees have had enough. The funny thing is I AM one of those people, but I hate the office and I've realised that instead of just pretending to be busy all damn day for the sake of looking important I can just do some effective tasks each day and hit every important milestone that matters. Seriously. I make a few calls, organise some things, do some presentations, have some short meetings - that's a week's work. 4-5 hours of the day is total bullshit. does anyone actually care? No. Do they still get pissy about whether I turn up at 9am every day? Yes, but not really for any important reason they can adequately explain. I've tested this recently by negotiating 2 days a week that I WFH and get on with my own work. Does anyone actually care what I do? Nope. Took 3 hours off this morning to go to the gym. Did I still do all the important bits of work that means I'm an asset to the company? Absolutely. Does the flexibility to work on my own time and be given freedom and autonomy to do the tasks that are important keep me at the job and satisfied? 100%. And yet, despite all the evidence, my line manager still insists that bums must be on seats...
