I dont know how true that is. There were A LOT of cartoons in the 80s. 1986 may have been the most crowded toy aisle in history. Theres lots of stuff that never even gets talked about. The 86 Transformers movie has never been topped.

As for as cartoons that still hold up? I think these still hold up pretty well (even though they may have some questionable episodes and moments.)

1. Dungeons and Dragons
2. The Littles
3. Ulysses 31
4. Mysterious Cities of Gold
5. Star Wars Ewoks
6. Voltron
7. The Real Ghostbusters
8. He-Man (if you accept the target age group as 1st graders.)
9. Visionaries (going off memory here.)
10. Robotech
11. A Pup Named Scooby Doo
12. Jem
13. Duck Tales
14. Gummi Bears
15. Count Duckula
* A lot of the light hearted comedy stuff like Inspector Gadget, Smurfs, Heathcliff, etc has probably held up fine.
Thats just the stuff off the top of my head.
I'll give you Duck Tales, but I ain't budging on the rest of them :V
But honestly, I just don't know that many of those are my type of cartoons.
