It's really infuriating when management can't see past its own fucking nose to understand this.

I deal with a lot of companies and learn about their processes and practises. There is absolutely no correlation between the successful companies and whether they force their employees to come in or not. And yet so many of these companies are absolutely hellbent on making everyone return to the office as soon as possible.

What I notice is that this style of management is really ultra obsessed with busy work. Not effective work, or results. or return on investment - just the notion of being busy. Their KPIs are around time and attendance, spreadsheets, emails and phone calls, and yet when you ask them a metric like "but what's your cost per X" they literally can't tell you.

They all fucking KNOW that their employees are only really effective 20% of the time, but they still want to drive their employees into being unhappy for the remaining 80%.

It's unreal. Some people would rather drive off their best staff than admit that "bums on seats" is an awful way to gauge productivity.
