On average, keeping the light/heat on during the day won't outweigh the money saved on commuting.

My wife has been working from home since March of 2020, and the money we have saved on her not having to do her 20 mile commute has been pretty sizeable.

Even the simple things as going from filling up her gas tank once every 5 days vs now doing it once every 3-4 weeks.
It may be dependent on vehicles, location, and commute distance.

I think I broke even. I have a Honda Civic with great mpg, work is about a 30 mile round trip, but I also live in WI which can have some harsh winter weather
