For New York, at least, My guess is checking vaxx cards or the NYS Excelsior Pass (the app I mentioned above). When I went to one of the Islanders playoff games, and they had vaccinated and unvaccinated sections, you had to show your proof of vaccination if you had a ticket on the "vaccinated side".
