Like the panda, humans will never let it go extinct. Pretty much. In a world where the survival of so many species hinges on direct human intervention, being cute/funny is an extremely advantageous trait, arguably more so than any other trait a species can possess. Humans have near-total power to decide which species live and die; if a species can appeal to their whims, that's a huge boon. --- This is my signature.
