Bravery should have nothing to do with it, but there is such a dangerous mindset that athletes shouldn't wuss out that it is problematic. No wonder some athletes take damage, both physical and mental, when it could have been avoided. The pressure to perform and the shame for quitting is as close to clinically insane as you can find in a society as a whole. Do I think her brave or courageous? No more than is normal.
