Oh my fucking god this is a cool twist on the "Prosecutor always wins" stuff that always happens. They're damned, as in, they are actually damned, either way. He doesn't have a perfect record. I love this and it's such an interesting take and it's already getting me to think that this will tie heavily into case 5 (since I dunno if he's the prosecutor in the next game or not) so shit. This has to be one of the huge plot points of the game.
