Any raise in body temperature is unwanted even if it is to fight a virus. A mild fever can become a high fever. A high fever can kill you if you did not know. There is no other response once you get into a high fever. It either does the job, you die from the virus or the fever kills you instead if it lasts too long due to damaging your internal cells. The high fever is the last resort. Not the mild one.
