The reason Trump handled Covid so poorly is because conservatives let the 2016 election victory get to their heads, so they tried to make it seem like nothing changed since then and had to dance around the pandemic as a result. I'd say it's karma for Trump since much of the reason he even got elected President anyways was because of those Comey letters casting doubt on Hillary Clinton at the worst possible time.
