I've soured on this one a little bit since its release, but I still enjoy many of its storytelling elements. I like how grand in scope this rather simple slice-of-life arc can feel; you can find yourself easily caught up in a house of horrors or conspiracy thriller much like you would discovering weird, new things in your own house before coming to the conclusion that the stuff you were obsessed with is just sort of sad, depressing, and mundane, distracting yourself from the real problems. The decision to sit the narrative in a "new" house was smart; you feel alienated and much like a voyeur touching things you're not supposed to, but also like a detective slowly piecing the narrative together. Sure, many games have you going around unknown environments, collecting & touching things but not many take the care to make it feel as personal as Gone Home does. As for the narrative itself; it's rather run-of-the-mill if you ask me. I don't think it particularly brings anything new to the table about lesbian relationships and familial acceptance but it's still a story with decent emotional weight and a decently hopeful if also melancholic ending, though more in its ambiguity than stating an outright conclusion. It's not quite the barnburner it was touted as, but it's still worth a playthrough if you ask me.

I've decided to put my fears behind me. I'm not going back.
