Look at any other similar Western country and the US almost always underperforms in the medal comparisons relative to population.I mean this is kinda true but think about if the US was split into, say, 5 different countries. Would you expect those five countries to get more individual medals or fewer? I think youd get more just by virtue of being able to potentially send more people overall to compete.
