WTF? No, EoE was more or less how the anime was originally supposed to end. It only changed because Gainax was running out of money at the time and couldn't animate something like EoE.

No, the "reboots" are actually sequels. It's actually been explained that the story is a repeating one with changes every time it repeats. The "reboot" movies are sometime after EoE, when the timeline repeats. ---
