To someone who does not understand the science behind how vaccines work (whether due to conspiracy reasons or simply due to never bothering to learn), and simply knows of them as a thing that helps protect you from a disease, it is not at all unexpected that they wouldn't realise the difference between taking the vaccine before exposure vs taking it to help fight off an infection.

And let me be really fucking clear (because this is CE and it's guaranteed someone's going to claim otherwise if I don't point this out here). I am not saying they're right, or that we should pretend they are. I am saying it's very understandable why someone without the relevant pre-existing knowledge, might think that it would be worthwhile.

I mean it isn't as if vaccines are new. People should know what they do.
