I agree, but consider that when the expansion launches it's going to get even worse than that. The amount of new players is so high that it's causing expansion launch level server strain during a period of time where the "typical" core users are inactive. That's insane, and if new players stick around for Endwalker it means an order of magnitude more stress than the devs were planning for. The devs are probably freaking out and as that post explains, they don't exactly have a lot of options. From SE's perspective they probably weighed the options and figured that the WoW exodus is more publicity than the free trial meme and might as well try to pick up sales as they unfuck everything. --- I definitely did not forget to put the 2020 GOTD Guru winner, azuarc in my sig! ...
