Now that isn't to say it can't be done at all, but I'm thinking something to add replayability would making it kind of like FTL with it's procedurally generated systems. You could still have some loose plot elements (such as the game starting because their squadron is tasked to hop through a wormhole or something to parts unknown) but then still deliver relatively fresh playthroughs for a long time before it starts to stale. :shrug: --- ...
