My favorite stories are of some peoples' large scale long term campaigns to replant trees. Idk, most rural land I feel like is in places that were already naturally "undesirable" (i.e. flat and not much vegetation), or the ones that are pretty lush leave it pretty untouched. But rural living absolutely is not something that would work for the broader population. And it provides a lot of constraint on supply chains for having to serve such a remote and small area. Suburban planning already introduces a lot of inefficiency/waste (lawns anyone?). Urban is the most maximizing for sure even though we also have plenty of avoidable issues there ...
