There's a bit you don't know about some of the characters which is evident in some of the comments you made, but at the same time I'm not sure any of that information will change your overall view. (To be clear, I mean things that happen later on--I'm not saying you missed anything)

One thing I will say is that I do believe Dieter is being genuine in basically all of his conversations. Not sure if you were implying otherwise but I definitely don't think he's lying about his own beliefs and ideals just for the sake of a power grab. I think he believes he needs power in order to realize his ideals

Yeah, like I said, I might be being too harsh in the moment and stuff that comes up later might make me revise my opinion. I'm coming at this from the perspective of someone who already has a general sense of how this goes without knowing all the specifics.

And I believe Crois believes what he's saying, and I believe he thinks he's doing what's best for Crossbell's long-term prosperity. He definitely has different motivations than Mariabell. He also deliberately baited Erebonia and Calvard into invading Crossbell so he could make a public example of them and deceived his own citizens in order to provide the grounds to declare himself president. His intentions are good, but I don't agree with his methods.
