Having a degree (even a liberal arts) gets your foot in the door when you have no other work experience or limited work experience. Most people are not going to get a degree and then immediately be making huge bank, unless their degree is more specific and tailored to a specific line of work.

Having a degree will get you in the door to a company as a 23 year old and you can work your way up from there and be afforded new positions that *require* a degree. A lot of companies will only consider younger new hires with limited experience who have a degree or they'll take someone who has worked in an industry for many years and has experience without a degree.

If you're not very personable and not getting a degree in something that takes more knowledge/skill such as engineering or a specific career path, you might have a hard time.
