agesboy posted... the chinese government will go after your ass if you even say the word taiwan, so it's not like it's just random chinese people stirring trouble. it's a mentality cultivated by the government purposefully

Not really an excuse. Certainly not one that we'd accept if it happened here.

makes america's reaction to anti-zionism (until recent years) look soft

You can probably credit America's pretty open antisemitism for that. America isn't bad as Europe when it comes to its historical treatment of the Jewish people, but it's still pretty fucking bad. Whenever anything happens between Israel and Palestine (most often Israel retaliating in response to yet *another* terrorist attack), that latent racism jumps out barrels blazing in fucking seconds.

If the Chinese government can destroy Coco's career/life they can destroy yours.

That seems pretty unlikely.

This is actually something you might be interested in. Coco has been harassed non-stop over the past year because she mentioned Taiwan once in a steam. This lead to her losing her job 8 months after.

Meanwhile John Cena called Taiwan a country... on a tv interview... while in Taiwan and all he had to do was apologize afterward >_>

He's still got a career, *and* a movie coming out in China.

It sounds very much like she wasn't forced to quit. Supposedly several other members had tried to talk her out of quitting which doesn't seem like something they'd do if she didn't have the option to stay. Her channel isn't going down and other members will still be able to talk about her. Seems very much like either the stress was just too much, or she had some other real life thing that caused her to want to leave.

It wasn't too hard to see coming. She broke down on steam a few months back and recently had been talking about how difficult it was to stay positive and just a lot of small things here and there.

tbh, nonsense like that is yet another reason why I'd never get into streaming or social, and certainly why I'd never tie to my career. It's far too easy to say something that offends some psycho troll out there, at which point you could be canceled or even murdered.

Anyway, I'm guessing she must have a good amount of money in the bank -- more than if she'd simply had a normal job -- and will likely have a fanbase if she someday decides to return
